McCombe House - North Castle, New York
Sited at the top of a steep hill overlooking Long Island Sound, the building serves as a
farmhouse for a 100-acre orchard. A mile-long driveway leads through groves of fruit
trees and terminates in at a greenhouse. This greenhouse is the focus of the entrance
facade and is seen against a background of stone walls that form the front of the
house. The main entry opens to a large hall which is the unifying vertical space
that ties together the entire structure. From this space radiate the kitchen, living room,
and guest room, and the four bedrooms on the second floor, each with a handsome view.
