Yang House - Ossining, NY
The client had previously purchased property in the Westchester County for its convenient location
to her business and also for the mature, handsome landscaping. A cheaply-built, badly-deteriorated
house with aged mechanical systems was on the site.
The client wanted to retain some parts of the house for economic reasons - the foundations, floors
and an exterior wall. After checking their soundness, the architect proposed a design that would
build on and over this structure.
The resulting design is a light-filled contemporary house with up-to-date and energy-efficient
heating, cooling, plumbing and lighting systems. The new roof is a wide span permitting flexible
room planning. A slatted wood sun shade shields large windows that look out on the gardens.
