Green "Saltbox" House - East Hampton, New York
Set behind a dune facing the Atlantic Ocean this house recalls early American "salt-box" forms in its shape
and detailing. The main room is two stories high an around it are clustered the secondary living spaces.
Large plate glass windows are protected by a deep overhang and lateral sunshades to avoid excessive heat buildup
from the strong southerly sun. The space is an efficient solar collector, since it naturally recycles stored
winter sun gain in the tile floor and then reradiates it to the space at night.
