McConomy Poolhouse, Garden and Pavilions - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
The clients asked the architects to add an enclosed swimming pool to their handsome brick house.
The necessarily large structure was harmonized with the house by using similar brick and slate as
building materials and also similarly-shaped windows.
Yet, the poolhouse has a character all its own. A pattern of skylights bring in natural light to
the interior and bright glass tiles on the wall add sparkle and color.
A later project added a pair of connected studios and a garden house for family gatherings. This
complex is built around a garden developed by the architects that features a seasonal array of
flowers and, at the base of the garden house, a small pond.
