Community Church of Astoria - Queens, NY
The congregation of the Community Church of Astoria wanted to double the building's space and provide a multipurpose
room for meeting and Sunday School use. To minimize disruption to church services and other activities during construction,
the architects built the new spaces above and to the side if the existing single-story church, effectively enveloping
the older building. This allowed the church to continue functioning for longer than if the original building had been
demolished at the outset.
